In 2018, the Director-General of UNESCO launched a flagship initiative “Revive the Spirit of Mosul”, focusing on the human dimension of reconstruction. With the full support of the Government of Iraq and of the UN Secretary-General, UNESCO is coordinating international efforts in two main areas: the restoration and rehabilitation of cultural heritage and the revival of educational and cultural institutions. Within the framework of this initiative, UNESCO has commenced the Project ‘Reviving the Spirit of Mosul by rebuilding one of the historic landmarks namely the Aghawat Mosque. Aghawat Mosque in West Mosul, Iraq is located in a prominent position adjacent to the Tigris River; located near to the historic old bridge of Mosul and at the nominal entrance to the bazaar area, it served as a very important local landmark. Currently, the mosque structure is generally intact with a multitude of surface damages. |
The aim of the project is to understand the severity of the damage across the structure and surfaces by conducting relevant assessments and subsequently propose interventions for rehabilitation and reconstruction under the supervision of UNESCO. A fully coordinated and multi-disciplinary tender package has been submitted including architectural and structural drawings, whereas is an onsite requirement for electrical, civils and mechanical drawing packages. Tender documentation includes drawings, specification and bills of quantities.
