The global objective of the assignment is to assist the Government of the Republic of Mauritius to consolidate and strengthen ongoing efforts and measures to respond to child protection issues. This means ensuring protection of children from any forms of abuse and violence through the implementation of a coordinated set of norms, laws, policies, programmes and services. The specific objective of the assignment is to support the Government of the Republic of Mauritius to develop a National Child Protection Strategy in Mauritius, and its related Action Plan, including monitoring of the implementation thereof. The expected Strategy and Action Plan are based on findings from an audit of the operations of Child Development Unit which was created in 1995 under the Ministry of Gender, Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare, as well as a situation analysis that takes stock not only of the situation of children, but also of the activities taken to protect children from violence, exploitation and abuse. To ensure ownership of these products and of the process, the work to develop the strategy and the action plan is participatory. In its work the team adopts EU procedures and criteria. Besides the Situation Analysis, the preparation of the National Strategy and Implementation Plan, and the evaluation of the specific results of the strategy and the short-term impact of the project, – the team also identifies good practices to be disseminated and replicated.
