Shaoxing is an ancient city, which has played a key role as a regional political, economic and cultural centre. It is well known for its cultural and physical setting. In Shaoxing, ZUEP (Zehejiang Urban Environmental Project) envisages the following environmental improvements: - the rehabilitation of urban watercourses; - the upgrade of urban infrastructure services - the conservation of historic sites and buildings in five areas of the Old City - to measure project impacts and to strengthen monitoring of outcomes in accordance with defined indicators for the Shaoxing component of the ongoing Zhejiang Urban Environmental Project (ZUEP), for which World Bank funding has been approved.
