The overall objective of the assignment was to develop a comprehensive, coherent and practically implementable Small Town Regeneration Strategy for South Africa. The strategy added practical value to the initiatives and interventions already undertaken by various role-players and stakeholders in their attempts to regenerate and rejuvenate the economic development of small towns especially in rural South Africa to meet the South African Government's strategic goals of economic growth and poverty reduction. The specific objective of the assignment has been to develop a comprehensive, coherent and integrated conceptual framework for small town regeneration in South Africa, with a particular bias towards peri-urban and rural municipalities and small towns that reside within them.
