The study foresees the objectives of (i) supporting sustainable management of the country’s cultural heritage and (ii) developing cultural tourism as a key element of the overall framework of the tourism masterplan. The first objective will be achieved through strengthening and modernizing the current institutional setting responsible for heritage management, emphasizing protection, preservation, site enhancement, and promotion. The second objective will be achieved through a controlled extension of tourist facilities, increased collaboration between heritage and tourism authorities, and careful planning of visits, with a view to preserving the uniqueness of the heritage.
