ARS Progetti in 2008 was selected by the OAS to form a multidisciplinary team to undertake the identification and verification of damages to communities affected by the construction of the Chixoy hydroelectric dam in the departments of Alta and Baja Verapaz and Quiche, where 90% of the population is indigenous Maya Quiche, qéqchi, achi and pocompchi. The study constitute the basis for implementing a plan of reparation to the State of Guatemala at the affected communities. The project includes a situational analysis of the conditions of the affected communities before, during and after construction of the hydroelectric plant, the preparation of baseline surveys conducted before the construction of the hydroelectric plant in order to compare the results in a final identification of damages according to the categories of analysis and the agreements between the State and the affected communities.
