The ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons adopted on the 14th June 2006 in Abuja, Nigeria is intended to provide the Community with a specific legally-binding instrument for the fight against the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the region. Our assignment is expected to provide the ECOWAS Small Arms Unit with the technical capacity to enable the Unit to put in place relevant procedures/mechanisms that can facilitate and contribute to an effective implementation of the ECOWAS Moratorium /Convention on SALW. The objectives of this project are: 1. To assist in the drafting, approval and adoption of a comprehensive and integrated Plan of Action for the implementation of the ECOWAS Convention. 2. To provide assistance to improve the management of the exemption process to the ECOWAS Moratorium/Convention through the adoption of a standardized form and a computerized database.
