The Government of Uzbekistan (GoU) has implemented specific policies focused on expanding trade to enhance its transition to a market economy.An essential condition to develop intra-regional trade as well as trade with the EU is the creation of an adequate regulatory environment. The partnership and co-operation agreement (PCA) with Uzbekistan provides an appropriate framework and a set of contractual obligations in areas central to promoting the climate for trade and investment. It stipulates approximation of standards and certification to EU practice to be pursued.The overall objective of this project is to contribute to support the economic development of Uzbekistan by upgrading its standardization and certification of products, goods and services to international practice, thus reducing trade barriers. This is achieved by focusing on the following specific objectives:1.To accomplish a thorough preparatory work to set up the grounds for the foreseen IDU project agreed under the AP2004. 2. To support to ASC’s current necessities and official requests.
