Government of the Punjab, with the support of a World Bank loan, launched the Punjab Tourism & Economic Growth project (2017-2022). UNESCO Islamabad provided technical assistance to the Government of Punjab to ensure that a sustainable tourism development approach is applied to ensure the protection of selected sites and museums through development of holistic management plans and institutional capacity building to undertake the required reforms and promote cultural pluralism amongst the local communities

The main objective is to produce a sustainable Conservation Management Plan and a Master Plan, for the restoration and rehabilitation of the Lahore Museum Building and to guide the long-term preservation and sustainability of the museum and its collection.
