The Government of Tanzania, through The Government of Tanzania, through President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), has received a credit from the World Bank towards the cost of implementing Tanzania Strategic Cities Project. The project targets eight selected urban Local Government Authorities (LGAs). The project Objective is to improve the quality of (and access to) the basic urban services through rehabilitation/upgrading of urban infrastructure and strengthen institutional capacity of the selected urban LGAs. Furthermore, the Government of Tanzania recognizes the economic potential of the urban LGAs and aims to reduce poverty and improve service. PO-RALG intends to support participating LGAs to prepare a Local Economic Development (LED) Strategy. The assignment is carried out in two interlinked packages as follows:
The objective of the assignment is to develop a local economic development strategy, action plans, projects and programs for the participating LGAs – Package 2. This is achieved through collection of all relevant data/information for future planning and analyzing them to identify future actions for the LGAs as well as other stakeholders.
The strategy incorporates inputs from the community, private sector, different stakeholders and other development partners who are working closely with the each LGA.
