The justice sector has constituted a priority of EU-Lebanon cooperation over the past years. The EU funded "Modernisation of the Lebanese Justice - ENPI/2008/019-622" program (2010-17; 10 M€) is articulated around several components, including inter alia a) the automation of operations and procedures of the judicial, administrative and special courts; b) the provision of training for judges, court clerks, recorders, bailiffs and other staff; c) actions aimed to enhance access to justice. This program was formulated following the Lebanese government's expressed willingness to strengthen the capacity of the judiciary to perform their tasks in a more effective, efficient, transparent and accountable manner.
