The Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), also called the Diplomatic School of Armenia, was established by a Decree of the Government of Armenia in September 2009 with financial and advisory support from the European Union, the OSCE and UN Offices in Yerevan; it was officially inaugurated on February 2010. The Diplomatic School pursues the following objectives:
This technical assistance is a continuation of prior EU support: a 4-year Institution and capacity building project « Support to Capacity and Institution Building of the Diplomatic Academy in Armenia », in the framework of the Institutional Reform Plan (IRP) for the MFA, as a building block in the comprehensive Institution building Programme.
The overall objective of the Institutional Reform Plan (IRP) for the MFA under the aegis of Comprehensive Institutional Building programme, is to strengthen the institutional capacity of MFA of the Republic of Armenia in order to establish the necessary capacities for timely preparation of negotiating positions, improved coordination among the relevant institutions in cross-cutting sectors as well as working groups involved in different areas of negotiation. This Technical Assistance lays ground for further initiatives taken within the framework of IRP.
Another strong objective is to develop contacts with Diplomatic Academies in the EU Member States thus providing avenue for enhanced networking and possible cooperation. By strengthening the DS within the MFA, the assignment is aimed at ensuring transfer of necessary knowledge and skills to diplomats and civil servants and thus facilitates the process of closer association and integration between the EU and the Republic of Armenia.
