To create a capable state that would be at the centre of the developmental vision, the government of South Africa in October 2013 created the National School of Government (NSG). To do this, the NSG seeks to look at the learning methodology that improve performance at the work place and needs to introduce learning programmes to be efficient and responsive to its mandate of training and development thus improved service delivery. The need was expressed for Mentoring & Coaching Programmes. The global objective of this project is to assist the state in fulfilling its developmental and transformative role, notably through improving service delivery. The specific objectives are:

In responding to the specific objectives, consideration was given to the promotion of equal human rights and a gender perspective has been integrated in to the design, development and content of the programmes.
