This mission is part of the result 1 of the Program, which seeks to improve the capabilities of national quality institutions and sanitary and phytosanitary measures for greater compliance with formal market requirements by Small and Medium Enterprises and cooperatives. Strengthening the competitiveness of SMEs and cooperatives means that they have services provided by the institutions that belong to the National Quality System or other competent authorities, such as the Ministry of Agriculture (MAGA) or the Ministry of Health (MSPAS), if considers safety or quality of primary or processed agricultural products. These actors can thus demonstrate that they meet the standards of the markets in terms of quality and sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

The general objective of the program (of which this assignment is part) is to improve the competitiveness of SMEs and cooperatives to meet market requirements.

Specific objective: Strengthen the capacities of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of the competent institutions and laboratories in order to provide greater compliance with the market requirements by the SMEs and cooperatives.

The technical assistance service will seek to achieve the following results:

  1. Result 1: Supported the implementation of the framework proposal for the control of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures in Guatemala.
  2. Result 2: Test laboratories (public/private) strengthened, so that they provide and have accredited with international recognition, the analyses required by the SMEs and cooperatives, in accordance with the regulations applicable in the markets of destination.
  3. Result 3: Official control system strengthened in the MAGA and the MSPAS, for the regulation and verification of compliance in SMEs and cooperatives
