The government of Ethiopia sees higher education as a foundation of economic and social progress, peace, as well as building democratic culture and cohesive societies.
The government of Ethiopia has been investing in equipping universities with ICTs in order to improve administration, teaching, learning and research. It has also established the Ethiopian Research and Education Network (EthERNet), to support the public higher education institutes in building stable, reliable, flexible, modular, and scalable network infrastructure across the country and connect those higher education institutions to the global research community.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) through the EthERNet supports the development and use of ICTs to improve the quality of education, research, administration, and library systems in the higher education sector.
The objective of the project is to develop an Ethiopian Higher Education Policy and Strategic Plan for the next five years. The policy and the strategic plan are expected to establish effective and mature nationwide ICT system within the Ethiopian higher education sector, capable to manage and adjust to all the current and future needs of institutions, students and staff.
