In January 2010, an earthquake destroyed a large part of the capital Port-au-Prince, including the majority of administrative buildings. The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) was hit hard, losing its premises, archives and many of its working tools. The few documents that were recovered were moved to the National Laboratory for Construction and Public Works. There is no specific building where everything is stored and managed according to standard norms. Action is needed to provide the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) with an efficient and modernised archiving centre according to modern standards.
The present project therefore aims to provide the MTPTC with a set of architectural and technical studies enabling it to set up a new building containing the Ministry's archive, technical and legal documentation and continuing education centre.
The mission consists in analysing the archiving problems in the Ministry, in carrying out the studies of a new functional and modern system where all the documents will be archived in a computer system and kept in hard copy after use by the Directorates concerned. The results to be achieved are:
