SINCE (Stemming Irregular Migration in Northern and Central Ethiopia) Programme is part of the European Union Emergency Trust Fund for stability and addressing root causes of irregular migration and displaced persons in Africa (EUTF for Africa) and is implemented by the Embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa in cooperation with several partners, including two UN agencies (ILO and UNIDO) and five NGO-led consortia.
SINCE implementation period started on December 2015 and ends on the 31.03.2021.
SINCE is responding to the first objective of the EUTF for Africa, namely to create greater economic and employment opportunities, especially for young people and women, with a focus on vocational trainings and the support of micro and small enterprises. Focusing on the most migration prone regions of Ethiopia, SINCE intends to contribute to the reduction of irregular migration by improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable population. Specifically, the Programme aims at creating wage employment opportunities for potential irregular migrants and returnees, especially women and youths, by strengthening the capacities of local vocational training providers (TVET) and promoting public private partnerships (PPPs) in strategic value chains.
The different projects financed within SINCE Programme are:
