Senior Conservation Architect/ Expert in Modern Heritage
Dr. Haidar is a Senior Conservation Architect with over 15 years of professional experience in architectural conservation. He holds an MPhil in Architectural Conservation from Sapienza University of Rome and a Ph.D. in Architecture from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where his research focused on the conservation of modern heritage in the Arab world.
Throughout his career, Dr. Haidar has led and contributed to numerous high-profile conservation initiatives across the MENA region and Sub-Saharan Africa. His work includes major projects such as the Conservation Management Plan for Oscar Niemeyer’s Tripoli International Fair, developed with UNESCO Beirut and the Getty Foundation under the Keep It Modern program, as well as the Conservation Management Plan for the Ghana International Trade Fair in Accra, among other international conservation efforts.
Since 2023, he has served as an Expert in Modern Architectural Heritage at A.R.S Progetti SPA, contributing to a variety of projects, notably the Urban Regeneration Plan for Heritage in Central Riyadh, including the inventory of mid-century architecture, and the renovation project of the Palace of Youth and Sports in Pristina, Kosovo, among other assignments. He has also led several conservation projects in the United Arab Emirates, focusing on transitional and modern-period buildings, overseeing processes from assessment and documentation through to conservation design.
Alongside his professional practice, Dr. Haidar has held academic and research positions at institutions including the American University of Beirut and the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-Malaquais. He is a board member of the Arab Center for Architecture in Beirut, contributing to the documentation of modern heritage archives, and is an active member of DOCOMOMO and ICOMOS Lebanon. His publications include La ferronnerie architecturale à Beyrouth au XXe siècle (Éditions Geuthner, 2021), examining cultural exchanges between Europe and the Middle East in twentieth-century architecture, and Learning from the Informal: Architectural Practices in Mediterranean Cities (Silvana Editoriale, 2024, co-edited).
